While Dark Souls was created by legendary Japanese game developer FromSoftware in 2011 as a spiritual successor to Demon Souls, it would soon surpass it’s predecessor and quickly become known as one of the best video games of all time, making its developer a household name worldwide. Building on this success, FromSoftware would go on to release Dark Souls two and three in 2014 and 2016 respectively, with the entire franchise raking in total sales of over 27 million units by 2020. There is an entire genre of games today know as “soulslikes”, a nod to this game’s incredible legacy.
