This is a fully commercial and professional font family. It was designed and created by the Hoefler & Co. font foundry and released in January of 2009.
Dead Kansas is the appropriately named free font alternative. It was created by a big fan of The Walking Dead and was released with a Freeware font license to the general public on 22 March 2010. It is actually a very good replica of the original logo seen in the tv series and contains the same distressed uppercase letters and numeric characters.
