Times New Roman font

Designed in 1931 by Stanley Morison and Victor Lardent, Times New Roman is the quintessential serif typeface, embodying a sense of scholarly gravitas and professional polish. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that Times New Roman is THE most popular serif font in use today. As the name might suggest, it was commissioned by The Times newspaper of London, the font was crafted to maximize readability and elegance, while also saving space – an essential feature in the world of newsprint. Its versatility has made it a ubiquitous presence in everything from academic papers to corporate documents.

A fun fact about this typeface is that despite its widespread use, Times New Roman was initially met with public resistance. When it was originally released it was even deemed “an ugly bastard” by one of The Times’ competitor. Today we can see that it has clearly outlived such early criticisms to become a much-loved and enduring classic.
